Homeowners insurance premium estimator
Pick your state and enter your dwelling coverage (Coverage A, roughly your home's rebuilding cost). This tool scales that state's NAIC 2022 average HO-3 premium by a coverage-band factor to give a ballpark annual premium. The national average is $1,569. It runs in your browser and covers all 51 states and DC. This is a rough planning estimate, not a quote — always get real quotes from licensed insurers.

How it works
The math is intentionally simple and transparent:
estimate = state average premium (NAIC 2022) x coverage-band factor
The state average is anchored near a $200k–$300k dwelling-coverage home (factor x1.0); larger or smaller rebuilding costs scale the estimate up or down. The factors are an approximation of how premiums rise with Coverage A — documented on the methodology page — not published NAIC band figures. For the underlying state averages, see each state page.
Frequently asked questions
How does the homeowners insurance estimator work?
Pick your state and enter your dwelling coverage amount (Coverage A - roughly what it would cost to rebuild your home). The tool takes that state's NAIC 2022 average HO-3 premium and scales it by a coverage-band factor to produce a ballpark annual premium. It runs entirely in your browser and stores nothing.
Is this an insurance quote?
No. It is a rough planning estimate built from state averages, not a quote. Your real premium also depends on your home's age and construction, roof age and material, deductible, claims history, credit score, and the individual insurer. Always get real quotes from licensed insurers.
How accurate is the estimate?
It is only as precise as a state average can be - a specific home can pay far more or less. The figures are NAIC 2022 data (the latest available) and premiums have risen since, so treat the result as a starting point and confirm current rates with insurers.
YMYL note. Homeowners insurance is a major financial decision. This estimator gives general information only, based on averages — it is not a quote, not advice, and not a substitute for shopping licensed insurers. Verify coverage needs with your insurer and your state insurance department. See our disclaimer.
